The balance between the soil and climate give a unique and unmistakable identity to the sangiovese which here expresses the excellence of the Chianti Classico area. Mocenni, founded in 1067, was initially a fortress for Siena’s defense. The estate is immersed in Nature, and its vineyards, surrounded by woods, form a south-facing amphitheater. Among its vineyards is Particella 89 where Mocenni 89 Gran Selezione Chianti Classico is produced, a symbol of excellence of Chianti Classico.

The soil, characterized by sedimentary rocks of Galestro and Alberese, resulted from the deposit of detritus in a marine environment between 80 and 40 million years ago. This is a distinctive element of the estate. The altitude of 1600 feet, The large difference in temperature between day and night, and the southern latitude of the denomination together with the southern exposure of the vineyards, give depth and warmth to the wines.
